Existentialism is a philosophical movement which focuses on individual 
existence, choice and subjectivity. It went against the philosophical 
norm that proposed a common ethical good. Soren Kierkegaard, the 
first writer to label himself an existentialist, believed that it was up to 
individuals to identify their own moral high ground. Other existentialists 
include Friedrich Nietzsche, Albert Camus and W. F. Hegel.
